I am really enjoying training on the Computrainers with Alex at the Turbo Studio - it's really high quality training. I'm also looking forward to testing myself over some of the Tour de France Courses!

What appeals to me most is the safety of riding indoors, doing the power sessions at my own level and being out of the elements.

Of course it's also great being able to see my speed and power improve! Jayson Austin

Turbo Studio Power Sessions are well considered training programs which test your capability and sessions are set according to these tested capabilities.

Specific courses and interval work using sound power based training methodologies are employed and programmed. Clients receive a monthly report on their performance, and can see and track their own improvement providing complete accountability.

Turbo Studio uses the Lab model of the Computrainer ergometer. These units leave the factory with extra attention paid to ensure good calibration. Provided the user sets up their equipment properly, undertakes a suitable warm up protocol and correctly performs a roll down calibration (the specifics of this process we have established and execute consistently for all Turbo Studio Power Sessions), then the units are reliable and accurate in both the setting of resistance levels during training and the recording of a rider’s power output.

Whilst many regard any training as good training, well considered quality sessions are far better than unstructured training rides that offer little in the way of improvement on the bike.

Investing in evidence based indoor Power Sessions at Turbo Studio and combining this investment with a regular training regime will see a marked improvement in power output and speed on the bike. Your improvement indoors will translate directly to your performance outdoors.

Sessions at Turbo Studio stem from evidence based coaching provided by power savvy coach Alex Simmons. Sessions not only provide you with results on the bike beneficial to both cyclists and triathletes, they provide you with feedback with regard to your own training and the effects that Power Sessions will have on that training. The ability to pedal consistently without the interference of red lights and other outdoor elements is most beneficial to a good training session.

Combine this with the technology of the Computrainer and specific power based sessions and the result is a quality training session.

In 2007 I began to train for an attempt at the World Hour Record on the track. Initially I found riding using a power meter quite strange-it was easy going and I wanted to push harder and get more power out and ride for longer. I was concerned about the kilometres I felt I needed to do to be competitive. It was good to be able to follow your progress and see improvements in power output over various rides.

I achieved some good results and in June 2007 in a trial run I unofficially set a new Hour record of 46.41 kms. I had been putting out some good power of 336 watts averaging 48.80kph. Two weeks before the attempt I became ill with respiratory problems, an ulcerated throat and then allergic reactions to the antibiotics. I missed breaking the record and continued riding for enjoyment when my health would let me.

In July 2008 I met with Alex Simmons from RSTern Professional Training Systems and discussed my health issues and my dream of breaking the Hour record - and so I began training with Coach Alex. We began with some steady rides a few days a week and from there gradually increased the amount of training to see what my body could handle. In a Maximal Aerobic Power test I achieved a result of 399watts.

Riding built to five days a week for six hours with no ongoing health issues. We were now ready to begin training for the record. Fitness returned nicely and in August I was a member of our club's TTT that won the State Championships in a new record time. At that point I had been training for around six hours per week.
